The Awesome Week 22 Blog

Feb - 05 2016 | no comments | By

I had a pretty awesome week 22 blog! First, we wrote 3 essays on three prompts. We did that all one week, that is pretty epic. The only reason that we could do that is because we trained the whole week before. Next, my friends and I had a competitive basketball tournament. Unfortunately I lost but i’m still pretty good at basketball. Last, we played Octaball and that was pretty extreme also. That is my epic 22nd week of school in fifth grade.IMG_5584

Pollution and Littering

Littering and Pollution

By: Nathan Brusseau

Have you ever seen somebody just throw a piece of trash on the ground, and not pick it up? In the two articles “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and an article called “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson they discuss the pollution and littering causing problems a over the world. In these next few paragraphs I will be telling the similarities and differences of these two interesting stories. Also, how we can help our country over come the pollution and littering problem.

In this paragraph I will be sharing with you the numerous similarities that these two stories have. First, littering and pollution are pretty much the same things. Problems! If you litter to much it will hurt our environment, the beautifulness of our country, and our animals in our world. If you let of to much pollution it will hurt us, animals, and environment. If you ask me I would not want all those things to go away. Next, in the article “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox she states that you can help prevent this by using a refillable steel container instead of a plastic bottle. In the article “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson she says that a lot of the kids on the beaches everyday can help by just picking up some trash for a good cause. Last, in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson they both are daily problems in our lives. We drink some bottled water about everyday and that is a problem. Some people just have a habit in throwing trash on our environment but more specifically our beaches. Even though, we have numerous similarities there are still some differences in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson.

Here are several differences between “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson. First, in the article “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox the problem is pollution everyone is using plastic water bottles when they can use refillable steel cans instead of plastic. All of those water bottles are made with a lot of fossil fuel and that pollutes the earth. One fun fact is that Americans buy more water bottles than any other nation. In the text of “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox she states that, “29 billion water bottles are made each year.” She also discusses, “manufacturers use 17 million barrels of crude oil. That is crazy! That is so bad when you can just use a refillable container, and just use the tap water. On the other hand, in the passage “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson it is the littering that is the problem. People are just dropping trash on our beautiful country when they don’t know that animals think it’s food. When the animals eat this they get sick. Next, in the passage Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox she talks about, “if you can recycle bottles we can make them into things like carpeting or fleece clothing. However, in the article “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson the author states that, “she can use all of that trash to make marine animals.

In conclusion, not littering and not polluting the Earth is very helpful. All of those animals that didn’t know not to eat trash shouldn’t of had to suffer like that. If us the people didn’t drop the trash on the beach or in the wild that would have never happened. I stated some solutions to these horrible problems with our Earth. So if we just obey the law and don’t litter or pollute our Earth would be a lot cleaner.

Rescue Dogs

By: Nathan Brusseau

Have you ever seen a rescue dog? In the articles “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Lenk. They explain how work dogs help us with our exploring lives and daily lives. They have some similarities and they also have differences. In these next few paragraphs I will be explaining how the Border Collie that herds sheep and the Avalanche Rescue Dogs save people’s lives.

In this paragraph I will be telling the similarities of the Border Collies and the Avalanche Rescue Dogs. First, the dogs both do work to help peoples lives be better and easier. The handlers or owners give them a treat or something in return for being a good dog. Next, in both situations the training starts when the dogs are puppies. In the article “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder she states, “ she would never sell the puppies she breeds as pets” and in “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Lenk she says, “ the dogs training starts at home when they are puppies.” Lastly, they are the same because all the dogs have trainers that they have been working with all of their lives. Even though there is a lot of similarities there are still differences.

Now in this paragraph I will be telling you about all the differences the  Border Collies and the Avalanche Rescue Dogs have. First, in the article “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder the Border Collies usually do their work on a farm where it is warm. On the other hand, in the other article “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Lenk the Avalanche Rescue Dogs work in the Snow where it is cold and icy. Second, in the passage “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder the dogs that are usually used for the job are Border Collies. However, in the passage “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Lenk usually the dogs are shepherds and retrievers, they do very well as search-and-rescue dogs. Third, In the article    “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder the handler or owner of all the Border Collies is named David and he has had 30 years of experience with Border Collies so he knows a little about them. But, in the article “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Lenk the handlers or owners are Kristin and Aaron. Kristin is training to be her dog Rube’s second handler because her husband Aaron is already Rube’s first handler. So that she has a lot less experience then David in the other article.

In Conclusion, Rescue dogs are amazing overall. They rescue people and save their lives if their in avalanche the Avalanche Rescue Dogs would probably find you. They help people with their daily lives. Like herding animals into pens, and they help you on the farm and some people have disabilities like blind, deaf, and etc. If we didn’t have working dogs our lives would be way harder than they are. Some people even think that  the world today is hard. They do work for us what could be better. Then, once they do all of their work we reward them. It is just a cycle. They do the work, we get paid, you get treats for them, and it starts all over. They also help us if you’re just lonely. That is why we should love our working dogs, and what they do for us!

Why I Am Not For Pluto Being a Planet

By: Nathan Brusseau

I just read two articles that are When is a Planet Not a Planet by Daniel Santos  and an article named What is a Planet from NASA. Some people are still arguing about if Pluto should be a planet or not. I strongly believe that Pluto should not be a planet. The first way I don’t think Pluto is a planet is because in the article What is a Planet from NASA it states to be classified as a planet it has to orbit the sun. Pluto does not orbit the sun so that is one way why I think Pluto should not be a planet. Next, the article What is a Planet from NASA also states that it must be big enough for gravity to squish it into a ball. Last, the passage What is a Planet from NASA states that if you add Pluto you will have to add 43 more KBOs or planets. Pluto is not big enough to be squished into a ball. That is what I will be explaining to you in the next few paragraphs.

First, I strongly believe that Pluto should not be a planet and here is one reason why I don’t think it should. According to What is a Planet from NASA Pluto does not meet one of the criteria’s to be a planet it has to orbit the sun to be a planet. They made the first official definition for a planet in August 2006.  Not only does it do that but it interferes with the other planets orbits around the sun. That could start a crash collision course Neptune. That is why Pluto does not meet the first criteria of NASA’s rules.

Second, I strongly believe that Pluto should not be a planet because it is not big enough for gravity to push it into a ball. In the passage When is a Planet Not a Planet by Daniel Santos the author states that the definition for a planet is it has to be able to get squished in to a ball. Pluto is clearly way to small to get squished. That is why in my head I believe that Pluto should not be classified as a planet.

Lastly, According to both of the texts What is a Planet from NASA and When is a Planet Not a Planet by Daniel Santos. If you add Pluto then you will have to add 43 Kuiper Belt Objects plus our original 9 planets. The (KBOs) will have to be classified because technically they are orbiting the sun. This will make our brains explode trying to think of something easy to remember for all of those planets. I barely know the original 9 planets. That is why Pluto will not be worth all the other (KBOs) being classified.

In Conclusion, it does not orbit the sun, it is not big enough to get squished into a ball, and if you classify Pluto technically you will have to classify 43 other planets. All of those reasons are why I strongly believe that Pluto should not be classified was a planet  in our solar system.

Week 20

Jan - 15 2016 | no comments | By

I had a awesome week 20. First, we made some awesome commercials. They are called the snack of the week commercial. The beat is the song on the “Addams Family” fixed to be snack of the week. You may be wondering why we are even making commercials about this. We get free snacks every Friday at Rocky Hill. Next, we made some awesome movie trailers they will probably all be on my blog. I am in the Edward Tulane trailer. Finally, we are making some songs about the lesson “word that connect”. Our group is doing really good on it. It has a really cool beat. That was my week 20 blog.
